Rules and regulations of the 14th Andrzej Krzanowski Accordion Competition

1. Competition Venue
Czechowice-Dziedzice (Andrzej Krzanowski’s hometown).
The competition will be held as part of the XXVIII Autumn Music Festival „Alkagran’2026” at the Municipal Cultural Center in Czechowice-Dziedzice, 42 Niepodległości Street.

3. The proceedings of the Competition
The competition has an open format and is directed to accordionists and chamber musicians of all nationalities up to 30 years of age (born no earlier than 1996).
The competition will be conducted in solo and chamber categories. In the chamber category, chamber ensembles of up to five performers may participate, with at least one accordion in the ensemble. The performing lineup in the chamber category remains fixed for the entire competition presentation. A piano can be made available to participants.
Auditions in the solo category are conducted in two stages. No more than 12 participants will qualify for Stage II of the Competition.
Auditions in the chamber category are single-stage and proceed together for all chamber ensembles, without division into categories related to instrumental or personal composition.

SOLO CATEGORY
Stage I: September 28 – 30, 2026
In case of fewer than 20 qualified participants, Stage I auditions will begin on September 29.
Stage II: October 1, 2026
Announcement of laureates list: October 1, 2026

CHAMBER CATEGORY
CHAMBER ENSEMBLES of up to five performers, with at least one accordion in the ensemble
October 2 – 3, 2026
In case of fewer than 10 qualified ensembles, auditions will take place only on October 2.

The announcement of competition results in both solo and chamber categories, presentation of awards and diplomas will take place during the LAUREATES’ CONCERT.

A competition participant may perform in both categories and in several ensembles.
First prize winners of previous editions of the A. Krzanowski Competition may enter only if they change competition category or participate in a different chamber ensemble configuration.

4. Order of Competition Presentations
Solo category: alphabetical order starting from a drawn letter. At the request of participants performing at concerts within the XXVIII Autumn Music Festival „Alkagran,” changes to the timing of their competition presentations may be permitted.
The drawing will take place on August 10, 2026, of which participants will be notified on the competition website in the audition schedule section. The drawing of the letter starting Stage II in the solo category will take place after the announcement of Stage I results.
Chamber category: random order.

5. Participation Requirements
Requirements for participation in the Competition are:
a) completing the application form – Participation Card with consent for personal data processing – on the website www.alkagran.pl and attaching a photograph (JPG format, minimum resolution 640×480 pixels) of the soloist or ensemble by June 30, 2026 (in the chamber category, each ensemble member submits a participation card),
b) paying the competition fee in the amount of:
Solo category
300.00 PLN (or equivalent in euros according to the NBP exchange rate on the day of payment)
Chamber category
300 – 750 PLN depending on the number of ensemble participants (150 PLN per participant) (or equivalent in euros according to the NBP exchange rate on the day of payment) for the entire ensemble (when making the payment, please provide the surnames of ensemble members) to the account:

A participant performing in both categories is required to pay the competition fee for each performance.
In case of withdrawal from the competition, the entry fee is non-refundable.
c) preparation of the competition program in accordance with repertoire requirements,
d) signing at the Festival Office before the competition performance a declaration of acceptance of the competition conditions included in the regulations, a declaration of familiarization with the information clause, and consent for the use of image and processing of personal data in accordance with the Regulation of the European Parliament and Council (EU) 2016/679 of April 27, 2016, on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC.

Only persons meeting the requirements of the Competition Regulations will be admitted to participate in the Competition.

6. Repertoire Requirements
SOLO CATEGORY

STAGE I

  1. Grażyna and Andrzej Krzanowscy – Sonata breve 6’30”
  2. A piece of virtuoso character (transcriptions are permitted)
  3. A piece by a composer from the country from which the participant comes or which they represent. A piece originally intended for an instrument other than accordion, composed no earlier than 1950, is also permitted, as well as a piece composed for solo accordion using electronic technologies*.

Duration of Stage I: up to 25 min.

STAGE II

  1. One or several freely chosen works by Andrzej Krzanowski (excluding Sonata breve from Stage I). Selection of one or several parts of a cycle is possible.
  2. Free program consisting entirely of works originally composed for solo accordion (one or several). Works composed for solo accordion using electronic technologies* are also permitted.

Duration of Stage II program: up to 30 min.

*Note! Works for accordion with tape are treated as solo. Works using live electronics may be performed in the solo category if the computer is operated by the participant. If operated by another person, they may only be performed in the chamber category.

Performance of the competition program from sheet music is permitted. When performing a published work, participants are required to possess the original edition of the presented composition.

At the request of the Organizers, competition participants are obliged to submit scores of performed works in 7 copies or send them electronically to alkagran@op.pl.

CHAMBER CATEGORY covering CHAMBER ENSEMBLES of up to five performers, with at least one accordion in the ensemble.

Free program consisting entirely of works originally composed for the given ensemble. The performing lineup and personnel of the ensemble may not change during the competition presentation. However, it is permissible to use different varieties of a given instrument, e.g., clarinet/bass clarinet. Works with harmonium transcribed for accordion and works using electronic technologies* are permitted.
Program duration: up to 30 min.

*Note! Works for accordion with tape are treated as solo. Works using live electronics may be performed in the solo category if the computer is operated by the participant. If operated by another person, they may only be performed in the chamber category.

When performing a published work, participants are required to possess the original edition of the presented composition.

At the request of the Organizers, competition participants are obliged to submit scores of performed works in 7 copies or send them electronically to alkagran@op.pl.

7. Awards
In each category, monetary prizes and distinctions will be awarded, with:
First Prize in the Solo Category is at least 12,000 PLN
First Prize in the Chamber Category is at least 12,000 PLN

The Jury decides on the amount of other prizes.
There is also a special prize for the best interpretation of a composition by Andrzej Krzanowski (in both categories) and a „Creative Music” prize for outstanding performance of a chamber work.
Prizes are subject to taxation in accordance with current regulations. Competition laureates will receive a „Laureate Diploma,” other participants a „Participation Diploma.” Award-winning participants are required to participate in the Laureates’ Concert.
Prizes are subject to taxation in accordance with tax law in Poland. The value of monetary prizes includes the due tax, which will be paid by the Organizer before disbursement. Receiving a prize means accepting the tax obligations resulting from regulations.

8. Competition Jury
The Jury composition will be announced at a later date. The Jury acts based on the Jury Work Regulations of the XIV Andrzej Krzanowski Accordion Competition. Jury decisions are indisputable, final, and not subject to appeal.

9. Audiovisual Documentation
The Competition Organizers reserve the right to all registration of competition auditions and free audiovisual broadcasting on the Internet and on Radio and Television, as well as to use photographic documentation of the competition for promotional purposes.

10. Costs of Stay and Meals
Competition participants cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and meals themselves. For laureates of the solo category, organizers cover accommodation costs for October 1/2/3, for laureates of the chamber category – October 2/3, 2026.

a) the processing of their personal data for the purposes of organizing and conducting the Competition „XIV ANDRZEJ KRZANOWSKI ACCORDION COMPETITION ALKAGRAN 2026” and providing information about the competition results, as well as for the purpose of promoting the competition and to the public disclosure of their name and surname in connection with participation in the Competition in all announcements, previews and information about it and its results, as well as the preparation of biographical notes,

b) free use, utilization and dissemination of their image, recorded by any technique on any media (including in the form of photographs and film documentation) by the Joint Controllers for the needs of the Competition „XIV ANDRZEJ KRZANOWSKI ACCORDION COMPETITION ALKAGRAN 2026” and its promotion. This consent is free of charge, is not limited in quantity, time or territory. For the needs of the competition, the image may be used for various forms of electronic processing, cropping and composition, and may be combined with images of other people, may be supplemented with accompanying commentary, while film recordings with their participation may be cut, edited, modified, added to other materials created for the needs of the competition and for information purposes. The consent applies in particular to the publication of the image recorded during participation in the competition: in the media, social networks, on websites. This consent covers all forms of publication, in particular dissemination on the Internet (i.e., on the websites of the Municipal Cultural Center in Czechowice-Dziedzice, on websites run by Grażyna Krzanowska conducting business under the name „LITTLE MUSIC ACADEMY” KRZANOWSKA GRAŻYNA and on the competition websites, i.e., www.alkagran.pl) and inclusion in promotional and informational materials. The image may not be used in a form or publication that is offensive or otherwise violates personal rights.
